Memo: NSEA Supports AB332

NSEA supports AB332 to implement consumer protections for education loan borrowers.
Support SB332 2023
Published: April 3, 2023

According to the National Education Association, almost half of all current educators have had to take on student debt to enter the profession. This reality keeps too many talented young people out of the profession and can push out those who do enter it.

Financially secure educators are less likely to leave their positions—and more stable staffing is linked to higher student achievement and lower costs for districts. Higher education must be affordable and accessible to all. This system is working for the student loan providers and banks, but not necessarily for us, and AB332 is simply adding in some protections for the consumer.
