Association Representatives

You're our #1 connection!

Link, bond, ally, and advocate. Those are some of the words that describe the role you play as an Association Representative! Thank you for volunteering for this position. You are our most important association leader - the vital connection between members and the education community.

As a member of your unified organization - NEA, NSEA, and your local affiliate - you are represented by three associations dedicated to advocacy on your behalf.

As an Association Representative, we hope you discover that the personal relationships you build at your work site this year are personally rewarding for you. those relationships are at the heart of what makes our association work and grow. Thanks again for your valuable time and energy.

What's my role?

An Association Representative is a volunteer organizer. Association Representative is the official name and "AR" is the acronym. AR's are also called building reps, stewards, or senators.

Your job as an organizer is both easy and difficult because you serve in a number of roles:

  • You tune in to our members' needs and share them with your local president, executive board, UniServ Council leaders, and other association leaders.
  • You evaluate our members' concerns and interests and report back to them how the association is responding to those concerns and interests.
  • You motivate and encourage our members to work together and to connect with the local community.
  • You make the call for help.
  • You let our members know about issues that impact them and help them organize ways to cope with those issues.
  • You raise questions and help identify issues.
  • You give our members a way to sound off. You give them a voice.
