The Nevada State Education Association has been the voice of Nevada educators for 125 years. We advocate for the safety and well-being of every Nevada student and educator. This includes ensuring students and educators can get to and from school safely.
Every day, thousands of Nevada students walk, bike, or are dropped off in areas with significant congestion and increased safety risks. Likewise, educators and school staff—many of whom perform crossing-duty or supervise student arrival and dismissal—regularly face dangerous conditions.
With a dramatic increase in the number of students hit by vehicles in school zones this year, AB6 will increase accountability for unsafe behavior, while giving districts the ability to extend the time for school zone enforcement to better reflect the actual usage of school buildings.
The Nevada State Education Association urges the committee to pass AB6 and continue prioritizing measures that keep our school communities safe.
