Nevada has long struggled to fill educator positions. Educator vacancies reached crisis levels coming out of the pandemic. While districts have made significant progress on teacher retention with the additional resources made available last session, Nevada still has over 1000 vacancies.
AB49 (as introduced) will help address this by allowing licensed educators with similar requirements to teach or work in Nevada schools if they are waiting on licensure approval, eliminating duplicative requirements for teachers changing grade levels, and waiving the teacher license application fee for those who recently paid for a substitute license.
