The Nevada State Education Association has been the voice of Nevada educators for 125 years. This is just 9 years longer than David Norman Elementary School has been open in Ely, Nevada.
After many hearings and much conversation, the Legislature is acutely aware of capital needs in Nevada’s rural school districts. This extends well past issues in White Pine, where students and educators are in buildings with broken windows, leaky roofs, and exposed to asbestos. Districts in counties with small populations don’t have the capacity to raise the capital necessary to build a new school or conduct major renovations from traditional bonds, especially since most are at or near their cap.
In recent session, NSEA has been supportive of rural districts’ efforts to seek help from the state for their capital needs. We support AB224, which would go a long way to address this need.
