NSEA supports AB205 to change the parental permission process for sex education from opt-in to opt-out.
Currently, Nevada educators provide age-appropriate instruction on human reproduction, sexually transmitted diseases, and sexual responsibility—courses that empower students with medically accurate information to make informed decisions and protect themselves.
These courses are critical to provide accurate information to help protect our teens and youth from disease and unwanted pregnancy. Yet, under the current opt-in system, students whose parents fail to respond are excluded from these critical classes—not because of parental choice, but because of bureaucratic barriers.
AB205 will streamline the parental notification process, ensuring all students can access this essential education while still giving parents the ability to opt out. NSEA asks for your support of AB205.
