The Nevada State Education Association represents 40,000 teachers and education support professionals across Nevada. We believe that every Nevada student deserves a quality public education. Making sure that decent and adequate school facilities are available is essential to meeting this vision.
Educators in Nevada, particularly during periods of rapid growth, have worked in overcrowded and, far too often, substandard school facilities. We are acutely aware that our working conditions are our student’s learning conditions. We know that student learning is severely compromised when classrooms are overcrowded or school facilities are run-down.
New residential development impacts school districts, as residential growth directly fuels the need for new schools or expanding existing facilities. It is only fair that those who benefit from development help offset the impacts of that development. AB 120 would give school districts an additional tool they may choose to meet their capital needs. Finally, AB 120 ensures that potential school sites in new subdivisions are appropriate for the school use.
