Memo: NSEA Seeks Amendment to Assembly Bill 426

NSEA seeks an amendment to AB426, starting on line 23 on page 11 of the amended bill, eliminating: "including, at least one member elected pursuant to paragraph (b) of subsection 1 of NRS 388G.720 and one member elected pursuant to paragraph (d) of subsection 1 of NRS 388G.720"

NSEA supports the goals of AB426 to improve public engagement, oversight, and transparency related to school organizational teams. In particular, we believe SOTs should have access to all relevant information to provide meaningful input on school budget decisions. 

However, NSEA also believes every member of an SOT is important, and we caution against elevating certain SOTs seats over others. AB426 does this in Section 6, subsection 4 in identifying the two SOT members who must be included in interviews to fill a vacant principal position. NSEA supports expanding SOT participation in this interview process but would recommend against identifying which seats are required to participate. 

We submit the following amendment starting on line 23 on page 11 of the amended bill…

 including, at least one member elected pursuant to paragraph (b) of subsection 1 of NRS 388G.720 and one member elected pursuant to paragraph (d) of subsection 1 of NRS 388G.720
