Pass The Plan: Fully Fund Our Schools

In 2022, the Commission on School Funding presented a clear, research-backed roadmap to reach optimal funding within 10 years. Even after record increases to education funding last session, Nevada trails the national average by more than $4000 per student today. That’s why we say Pass the Plan to stay on track toward optimal funding, including making a $700 per-pupil increase in each of the next two years.

Nevada consistently ranks near the bottom nationally in per-pupil education funding and student outcomes. In response to years of underfunding, the state adopted a Pupil-Centered Funding Plan (PCFP). But full implementation of that plan — and the increases in funding it calls for — requires legislative action and political will.

As details of the Governor’s budget submission are emerging, his new budget increases education funding by just $2 per pupil next year! Even after record increases to education funding last session, Nevada trails the national average by more than $4000 per student. If per-pupil funding is reduced, Nevada’s students will fall further and further behind.

That is why we must PASS THE PLAN.

In 2022, the Commission on School Funding developed a clear, research-backed roadmap to reach optimal funding within 10 years. We must PASS THE PLAN! To stay on track, we must commit to at least a $700 per-pupil increase in each of the next two years, totaling just over $600 million for the biennium.  Policymakers must avoid proposals that divert public dollars into private interests such as stadium vouchers, private school vouchers, and Hollywood giveaways.

Pass The Plan: Fully Fund Public Education

Fully Fund Public Education: Push state lawmakers to commit to long-term investments that close the funding gap for K-12 schools.
Implement the Commission’s Recommendations: The Nevada Commission on School Funding developed a detailed plan to gradually increase education funding. "Pass The Plan" refers to implementing those phased-in recommendations over time.
Ensure Equity for Students Most in Need: Prioritize funding for students who need more support — including English language learners, low-income students, and those with special needs.
Hold Lawmakers Accountable: Track which elected officials support or oppose fully funding education — and mobilize voters around that.
