Take Action
Let's re-write this script! Nevada’s students need the Blockbuster Budget; Hollywood doesn’t need to use Nevada’s budget for its blockbusters. Send an email to the Senate and urge them to vote no on AB238.
As the credits begin to roll on the 83rd Session, the title card currently reads “Studios Over Schools: The Two Dollar Session”
On the very same day the Governor signed a budget increasing education funding by just $2 per student, the Assembly voted to hand $1.65 billion to Hollywood executives.
The budget impacts of tax credits are real. According to the Economic Forum, Nevada is estimated to lose $119M in general fund revenue to tax credits this year. That goes up to $148M next year. In the out year, it rises to $160M. Those are funds that otherwise could be going to important services, including education. AB238 would take away another $110M per year!
Every dollar spent on one of these flashy but fiscally reckless projects is a dollar we don’t see in our schools.
