We want Congress to know we are outraged that teachers and education support professionals in Nevada and 14 other states have their Social Security benefits reduced or eliminated upon retirement.
Federal law currently has two provisions that negatively impact our teachers and education support professionals:
- The Windfall: Reduces teachers and professional staff's EARNED Social Security.
- The Offset: Eliminates a survivor's Social Security benefits.
We understand that Nevada cannot hire teachers and education support professionals from 36 states and professionals who change careers into education without penalizing them upon their retirement.
With Nevada needing to hire over 3,000 new teachers and support professionals each year, we urge Congress to pass HR 82 by Congressmen Berman and McKeon and S206 by Senators Feinstein and Collins.
