NSEA Joins in Lawsuit Against State Democratic Party
Jan. 14, 2008
  • NSEA has joined individuals and state leaders in a lawsuit that took exception to the preferential treatment that was given to some workers on the Las Vegas Strip who wanted to attend the caucuses.
  • NSEA joined the lawsuit to stand up for our members who are being asked to staff schools that are being used as caucus sites and as a result are unable to take part in the caucuses in their home precincts.
  • The fundamental and overriding principle of these caucuses should be fairness to everyone. We believe the opportunity to participate in the caucus process should be available for all employees across the state.
  • We have consistently been avid supporters of this opportunity for our teachers and support professionals to participate in the Nevada caucuses.
  • Further, this is a statewide caucus. Why is it that no where else in the state has similar accommodations been made available? There are certainly many shift workers in Reno, as well other parts of the state, and no special accommodations are being made for them.
  • Our participation in this suit is about fairness and has nothing to do with any particular candidate. Our members support several different candidates. Our participation is about standing up for our members, protecting their ability to caucus, and having their participation count as much as any other democrat.
  • We are looking forward to the caucuses on Saturday, January 19th, and we want that process to be fair and inclusive of everyone who wishes to participate.
