Education Initiative Petition Filed
149,858 signatures gathered statewide
The Nevada State Education Association (NSEA) filed 149,858 signatures with clerks’/registrar’s offices throughout the state Tuesday, Nov. 13 in support of the Education Initiative, which will bring dedicated, predictable K-12 revenue to Nevada. The petition requires 72,352 signatures to qualify and appear before the 2013 Nevada Legislature.
“More than 149,000 Nevadans join NSEA in our commitment to improve education in Nevada. These signatures send a clear message that Nevadans want a dedicated funding solution for K-12 education,” said NSEA President, Lynn Warne who delivered boxes of signed petitions in Washoe County.
The Education Initiative is a legislative ballot initiative sponsored by NSEA and the Nevada State AFL-CIO. The funds the initiative will raise for K-12 public education are anticipated to be substantial and can be used to reduce class sizes, provide more tools and technology, improve early childhood education, help create a safe and supportive learning environment, and will attract and retain quality educators.
Clerks’/registrars’ offices will now verify the signatures filed by NSEA and we look forward to bringing the will of Nevadans to the state legislature.
