Announcement of Part-Time/Temporary Office Support Employee

Office Support Employee – Part Time/Temporary, Elko, Nevada
Hours: 12 hours per week (3 days per week; 4 hours per day); start/end times negotiated
Unit Description:
The Nevada State Education Association (NSEA) is a 30,000 member affiliate of the National Education Association representing teachers and education support employees throughout the state of Nevada.
Required Qualifications/Attributes:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel , and a willingness to learn new technology;
- Ability to handle multiple phone lines;
- Strong communication skills – verbal and written;
- High degree of interpersonal skills;
- Highly-motivated self starter;
- Strong communications skills – verbal and written;
- Strong professional and personal characteristics including dependability, flexibility, solid work ethic, ability to plan and manage one’s time effectively and ability to work well with diverse individuals and interests; and
- Proven abilities in the following areas: attention to detail; thorough follow-up; team participation.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast pace environment.
Additional Desired Qualifications, but not required:
- Certified Post-Secondary clerical/office technology certification.
- Working knowledge and understanding of non-profit and/or union environment and current political climate is highly desired.
- Experience working in a school and/or front office setting.
- Previous staff and/or leadership experience.
- Bi-lingual Spanish a plus.
General Job Responsibilities:
This position supports the NSEA strategic focus of restoring public confidence in public education by providing skilled administrative, secretarial and clerical assistance.
Duties include but are not limited to:.
- Type, format and proof and distribute correspondence.
- Update and maintain calendar for assigned Professional and Management staff.
- Make travel and meeting arrangements.
- Assist in event planning for conferences.
- Place calls to members and legislators as requested.
- Maintain contact as requested with membership for meeting attendance.
- Coordinate attendance to special governance functions.
- Assist in filing and maintenance of files.
- Perform word processing and data entry duties as assigned.
- Field telephone calls.
- Order office supplies.
- Attend to clerical duties as directed, insuring proper procedures, i.e., reader copies, cc’s, proofing.
- Utilize NEA I&A system to assist in providing membership information as requested.
- Assist with production and preparation of membership materials for annual meetings (Delegate Assembly, NEA Representative Assembly and other NSEA programs.
- Assist with the implementation of NSEA’s programs and activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary and Fringe Benefits:
Salary of $10.00 per hour. Employer paid social security. Pursuant to Memorandum of Understanding, this position is not covered under the NSO-Nevada bargaining agreement.
